Did you know that it got its name because
it has the ability to cling on rocks?

The o'opu nopili (Goby) is endemic to Hawaii. The females and their children have brown and gray skin. The males have slate grayish and bluish skin with striped or various markings on itself. They can be found in middle stream reaches, usually liking fast flowing water. Like the other gobies they are noted for their unique life cycle.

The early Hawaiians loved to eat this fish, and they thought eating it would bring them good luck. The o'opu nopili was used in house warming ceremonies, so that they would have good luck throughout their lives.
