Did you know that the Ruddy Turnstone wing pattern is visible in flight because of its white wing stripe?

The Ruddy Turnstone (Arenaria interpres) or Akekeke in Hawaiian is a migratory bird that can no longer be seen at Kaelepulu Pond. The Ruddy Turnstone has short orange-red or yellow legs, and it has a slender pointed bill that is slightly upturned at the tip.

The Ruddy turnstone has a black, brown, and white patterned tail, body, and wings. Its call is a fast, low guttural, slurred whistle. It is common along the coast on rocky tidal shores and in wetlands, though it is usually rare inland. It usually feeds on seaweed or limu.
