Water Quality

Our ThinkQuest team and classmates were curious to know if Enchanted Lake (Kaelepulu Pond) is polluted. So as a class project we decided to do a water quality test of the pond at two different sites. We also participated in the Global Water Sampling Project which helped us understand how to measure the quality of our water. We hope this site will help you to understand how to test the water quality of your community's stream, pond, or lake. After you have reviewed this site, click here and try our Water Quality Crossword Puzzle.

Water quality is the degree of how clean and safe the water is for living organisms. People test the water to find out how safe the water is for recreational use, food, and for sustaining life. Some of the things they test for are phosphate, nitrate, coliform, and turbidity.

There are many different ways to test the quality of water. One way of testing the quality of the water is by using a testing kit like the LaMOtte Green Water Monitoring Kit. This kit is easy and kid-safe to use. Another way to test is by using your observation. You can find different things that you can't find through water kits such as the color of the water, the smell, the feel, and the looks of the surrounding area.
