Horseshoe crabs play a very important role in our world today - biologically, medically, and economically. They are one of the oldest species on earth. Many people refer to them as "living fossils". They were here 100 million years before the dinosaur. Yet, in spite of how long they have been around, many people today know very little about horseshoe crabs. They see them on the beach and don’t even know what they are, let alone realize they may owe their lives to these creatures and their blue blood.  Today many people believe their numbers are declining. There has been much controversy over whether to put restrictions on the harvesting of horseshoe crabs. After visiting this site, you will be better informed about the horseshoe crab situation. However, before you go to the next page, take this short quiz and find out how much  you already know about horseshoe crabs.
