Orion

Orion is the son of Poseidon, god of the sea, and Euryale, the Gorgon.  Orion fell in love with Merope, the daughter of Oenopion, king of Chios, and sought her in marriage.  Oenopion, however, constantly deferred his consent to marriage, and Orion attempted to gain possession of Merope by violence.  Because of his behavior, her father with the aid of the god Dionysus, put Orion into a deep sleep and blinded him.  his sight was restored after he went to the East and let the rays of the rising sun fall on his eyes.  He then lived with Artemis on Crete though the goddess eventually killed him because of her jealousy of his affection for Aurora, goddess of the dawn.  After his death, Artemis placed him in the heavens as a constellation.
