Muses

The Muses are the Greek goddesses of the arts and sciences. Each muse has her own area of specialization. They were the daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne (memory).
 

CALLIOPE

Muse of Epic Poetry 

She is the eldest muse and she has been pictured holding a book or a pen and paper.

 

 

CLIO

Muse of History 

Clio is also known as the proclaimer.  She is sometimes seen holding a scroll.

Erato

 

Muse of Love Poetry

She is the lovely muse and is sometimes seen with a crown of roses

Euterpe

 

Muse of Music 

She is the giver of pleasure with her music and she invented the double flute

Melpomene

Muse of Tragedy 

She is the songstress, her  joy filled singing is represented by the tragic mask

Polyhymnia

Muse of Sacred Poetry

She is also known as the muse of geometry, mime, meditation and agriculture

Terpsichore

Muse of Dancing

She is known as the winner ,she is often seen dancing with lyre

Thalia

Muse of Comedy and Poetry

She is seen with a comic mask and a crown of ivy

Urania

Muse of Astronomy 

She is also known as the heavenly muse and is represented by a staff pointed at a celestial globe.
