Organ Recovery
|
Once they find a match to the donor's body size and blood type, they go to their hospital and remove the organs in a germ-free operating room. Then the organs are packaged and sent to the transplant center in ice-filled coolers. The recovery process lasts 2-4 hours usually, but it depends on what organs are being removed. The order they take out the organs is the heart, then the lungs, the liver, the kidneys, then the pancreas. |
