Lungs

The lungs are the organs which enable you to breathe. The lungs supply oxygen to the blood stream which gives oxygen to all of the parts of the body. If your lungs stopped working then no oxygen would flow through your blood stream to your brain, causing death. Lungs are transplanted because of many diseases. For example, diseases such as emphysema and cystic fibrosis. Emphysema causes your lungs to not be able to squeeze air out of them, which causes your lungs to remain full of air, suffocating you. Cystic fibrosis keeps the lungs from cleaning out harmful fluids, making it hard to breathe. The first lung transplant took place in 1963.
