Above is a picture of Lucy sharing a video of Kate at her graduation with a group of students.

We met Lucy on our visit to MTS. Lucy's oldest daughter, Kate, was killed in a car accident in 1998. Kate was getting a ride from a friend back to college. The roads were slick, there was some construction, and their car fishtailed. Kate was only twenty-one at the time of the accident. She was in the hospital for three days before she died. We think Kate is a hero because she had told her family that if anything should happen to her she would want to be an organ donor. Her generosity saved the lives of five people through organ donation, and enhanced the lives of several others through bone donation. Lucy volunteers at MTS by visiting schools and talking to students about donation. We think that she is very courageous for sharing her story with so many people. Her volunteer efforts continue to touch people and ultimately help save lives. Kate was a big influence on her youngest sister, Becky. Becky keeps a green ribbon pinned to her purse as a presence of Kate. All of Kate's sisters and her mother have decided to become organ donors. Kate donated her heart, lung, kidneys, liver, small bowel, and bone tissue.
