Dr. Lowell works at Washington University in St. Louis. He has three titles: Interim, Director of Transplantation, Associate Professor of Surgery and Pediatrics, and Assistant Vice Chancellor for Clinical Affairs. But most importantly he performs transplant surgeries that save people's lives. He came to talk to our class about what it's like to be a transplant surgeon. We got to interview him for a whole hour. Here's some of the cool stuff we learned: 1. One donor can save the lives of nine people by donating their heart, two lungs, two kidneys, liver, pancreas, and small intestine. 2. One liver can be transplanted into two people. 3. Dr. Lowell has performed over 1,000 transplants! 4. It takes over 100 people to coordinate the donation to transplantation process.
