Understory

The understory starts about 60-70 feet above the forest floor.  Trees that make up the understory are palms, trees, and shrubs.  Practically all rain forest animals, birds, and food are located in the understory.  Lots of birds of prey fly between the understory and the canopy to find food.  The antbird is one of those unique birds.  The antbird lives in the lower understory and flies to the forest floor to to eat insects that live on the ground.  The understory is the  second layer of the rain forest and the liveliest of them all.
