Filipinos are known to be the "Best musicians of Asia." They lead nomadic lives, going where the chances of success are the greatest. The first Filipinos who have reported to live in Hawaii were not the laborers of 1906, but a band of twelve adventurous musicians and acrobats who arrived in 1888 on a clipper ship from Peking. Four of them elected to stay in Hawaii. Jose Leborino, Francisco de los Santos, Geronimo Inocinio, and Lazaro Salamanca joined the Royal Hawaiian Band and played for King Kalakaua and Queen Liliuokalani. They remained with the band even after the overthrow of the monarchy.
