What
is a Hurricane
A hurricane is a body of
air in which the atmospheric pressure is lower than the surrounding air. They may also
cause wind that drives the rain so anything that is outside is soaked thoroughly.
Where
are Hurricanes found
Hurricanes are found
throughout the tropics, especially near a low-lying coast in a low latitude on the western
side of the Atlantic, North Pacific, or the western side of the South Pacific.

What
should you do to be safe from Hurricanes
Find out what to
expect of the sea. To do this, try to find out the height of the ground between you and
the coast and how high your home is above ground level
You might need to
leave your home quickly, so work out the best route to high ground inland
Arrange in advance to
stay with a neighbor or relative who lives on high ground inland in case of an emergency
Secure external doors
and board up windows
Make a Safety Kit
before the disaster begins, consisting of flashlights, battery-powered radio, spare
batteries, a camping stove, fuel, and cooler box with gel packs for keeping fresh foods
cool
Prepare a first aid
box
