All About Mia Hamm








    Mia Hamm was born on March 17, 1972, in Selma, Alabama.  Mia is very shy and quiet even though she is a very good soccer player.She was married on Dec. 17, 1994, to Christian Corey.

    Because her dad was an airforce pilot she also lived in Italy, Texas, Virginia, and a lot of different places.  When Mia was 5 years old her mother tried to make her take ballet, but she wanted to play soccer instead.  She made most of her friends while playing soccer.  Even though she was the only girl on the team, she didn't care because she loved to play. The boys didn't care either because she was very good.

    Mia was the youngest member of the U. S. Women's Soccer Team at the age of 15.  She has scored 103 goals and 73 assists in '92 college games.  She is also the all-time lead scoring soccer player in the NCAA soccer tournament. She scored 16 goals and 9 assists in 13 games!  In 1992 and 1993, Mia won the Herman award as the very best women player.

    Only Michelle Akers (78 goals in 84 games) and Carin Gabarra (45 goals in 85 games) have scored more than Mia (43 goals and 19 assists) in the "86 International Games.  Mia's teams have won a High School State Title, four NCAA Champion Ships, and a World Cup!
