Tropical Rain Forest
The tropical rain forest consists of many hard and
softwood trees. They are broad-leaved and very tall. They can grow as tall
as two hundred feet tall. There are two canopies the lower and the upper
canopy. These canopies shade the forest floor. The forest floor recieves
less than one percent of sunlight than the upper canopy. A few of the common
animals that live here are beetles, termites, anteaters, frogs, monkeys,
toads, snakes, lemurs, toucans, parrots, jaguars, and sloths. Some of the
common plants are lianas, orchids, palms, ferns, and very tall broadleafed
trees. The tropical rain forests have plentiful rainfall. Fifty to two
hundred and sixty inches of rain falls yearly. Thunderstorms may occur
more tha two hundred times a year. The temperature rarely rises above ninety
tree degrees farenheight. It normally doesn’t change within five degrees
from the coolest month to the warmest month. Over half of the world’s species
are found here. Scientists have counted about two hundred and eighty species
of animals in one two and one half acre area of land in South America.
Many of the rain forest animals spend their lives in trees and never touch
the ground. The tropical rain forests are in Africa, Asia, Pacific Islands,
and Cental and South America. The forests are mostly near the Equator.
The largest of these forests is the Amazon. It covers about one third of
the South American continent. By:Stephanie
