The modern games were started in 1886 to encourage World peace and support good sportsmanship for the youth of the World. Today, Summer and Winter Olympics are held. The Summer Olympic games have been held every four years, except during World War I and II. The Winter Games were started in 1924 and took place the same years as the Summer Games. In 1994, the Games were split. The split rearranged the schedule, allowing each session, Summer and Winter to remain on the four year cycle, but to held, not during the same years, but two years apart.
