The Baka live in the African Rain Forest. They live in
the forests of Central Africa. They live in large families; sometimes,
as large as 30 people. The Baka rely foremost on the hunters-gatherers
. Towards the end of summer they have harvested their plantations. They
then head on deeper into the forest. Here they live and travel in
small groups. They have very few possessions and what they have they put
in the women's baskets. They know each area for what it can
be used for such as fish, mushrooms, fruit, insects, and yams.
As they move, into the forest the Baka people build
hunting camps, clearing a small area. At night there may be a dance or
a story by the firelight, supposed to be for entertainment, but also to
celebrate the forest. and enable the hunters to have a good hunt. They
live in woven huts made by the women. They
enjoy eating fruits; one of their favorites are mangoes.
The animals love fruit too, so hunters are helped by the fruit.
