African Animals
by Kayley Jones

Their are many interesting animals such as the Fossa and the Shrew Tenrec.  So I'm going to give you some fascinating facts about some of the animals.  I hope this journey through the animal kingdom teaches you a lot about the ANIMALS of the rainforest. Though most of the African rain forest has never been touched,  these are some of the  animals.

Fossa
The Fossa is one of the largest animals on Madagascar. The fossa is a member of the mongoose and civet group. It hunts on the ground and also in the trees of the rainforest. It's a predator of  lemur, lizard, and snakes. It is one of the greatest hunters of all the African Rain Forest. The fossa is brown and has a long tail and is four-footed.

Shrew Tenrec
The Shrew is one of the most active animals through the day and night only taking little rest periods. There is non-stop hunting for the same size animals or bigger for food, such as worms, grubs, and other small creatures. You can tell by what it eats that it isn't a very big animal nor very strong. The Shrew Tenrec  looks a lot like an anteater; it has a long nose and whiskers. It also looks like  a mouse with a brown body and a white belly.

African Grey Parrots
These birds travel by a  hop or skitter along branches.  They use their mouths, sharp teeth, and beaks to search around for their favorite food fruits, berries, and nuts. They have a grey, and white body, with a red tail.

The Flap Necked Chameleon
The Flap Necked Chameleon is like the common Chameleon which changes colors. The changing of colors can keep it from geting attacked by snakes. It usually change into black and yellow spots and hisses; therefore, the snake leaves it alone because the Chameleon looks like  a fierce snake too. Therefore the color change helps in many ways other than the common camoflauge that the normal  chameleon is known for. They usually live in the trees. He's hard to describe because he can change to so many different colors.
