Prions Prions eat zooplankton from the surface and filter it with filter plates in their mouth. They are nicknamed whalebirds for several reasons. They feed around whales, probably because they both eat plankton and they know where to find whales and plankton. Another name they are known by are firebirds because they were known to fly towards or into whaling lights. They gather in huge flocks, breed in southern islands, but rest in warmer waters.
