We know what you’re thinking; Ugh! Why do I have to listen to all of this educational junk? But, it’s important that you know what this site is all about. Literature! So groan all you want, just do us the courtesy of at least half-listening to what we’ve got to say.

Literature is all over the world today. Most people think of novels as literature. But literature can range from a six hundred-page novel to a poem that you write on a sticky note. Through literature, we can see different places, or have a different way of looking at things. Literature can open our minds to new ideas and ambitions.

Essentially, literature is writing of any sort. Now, some people may consider only books as literature. But what about poems, epics, and philosophies? Now, while this website mainly focuses on books, we encourage you to try writing of all kinds.

Literature has been written for a long time. Some of the most well known authors today a people who lived about a hundred years ago! Charles Dickens for example. And who could forget Washington Irving’s two eerie tales? Speaking of eerie, what about Edgar Allan Poe? And don’t forget Louisa-May Alcott. These classic authors have made a lasting impression on society that still exists today. But, you still have to give some credit to modern day authors who have really set the standards for good writing. Ever heard of Michael Critchton? How about Tom Clancy? Dean Koontz ring a bell? Well, believe it or not, these page-turning titans learned some of their tricks from old guys like Charles Dickens.

Okay, to wrap up our little philosophies about boring subjects, we’ve made up a list of some different genres.

Adventure: a story in which the hero's) encounter seemingly impossible situations and/or villains.

Poetry; A writing where normal grammar rules usually don’t apply. Rhyming is often used.

Science Fiction: Involves futuristic technology and/or races from different planets.

Non-Fiction: Involves real fact. (exa. Biographies, textbooks, almanacs etc.)

Fantasy: Often an adventure involving supernatural beings. Usually take place far in past.
