(1832-1888)

    An American author, often characterized by her emotional depiction of family life and values. She was the daughter of an American teacher and philosopher, Bronson Alcott. Miss Alcott was born in Germantown, Pennsylvania. Her most famous work, Little Women, was actually an autobiographical novel about her life as she grew up. It had two sequels; Little Men, and, Jo's Boys. To help to support her family, she used a pseudonym to write thrillers for various magazines.
