"The Evergreen State" became the 42nd state on November 11, 1889.

Washington has the largest coal deposits on the U.S. Pacific Coast, yet mining equals less than 1% of the state’s total financial output and creates about 3000 jobs.  Other mineral resources include magnesium, gold, lead, zinc, copper, silver, soapstone, uranium and tungsten.
