"Old Dominion" became the 10th state on June 25, 1788. One of the 11 Confederate States, Virginia seceded from the Union on April 17, 1861 and readmitted on January 26, 1870.
Virginia's has vast deposits of bituminous coal. It's major commercial mineral resources are coal, titanium, zinc and lime. It also produces cement, lead, clay, sand and gravel, slate, soapstone, Gypsum, and Titanium.
