Tennessee "The Volunteer State" became the 16th state on June 1, 1796. One of the 11 Confederate States, Tennessee seceded from the Union on June 8, 1861 and was readmitted on July 24, 1866. Tennessee is the nation's largest producer of zinc. It also produces coal, cement, clay, copper, iron ore, marble, phosphates, sand and gravel, and stone. |
