"The Silver State" became the 36th state on October 31, 1864.

This territory became a state during the U.S. Civil War after its rich deposits of gold and silver were discovered. It's Comstock Lode of Gold and silver made getting this area into statehood very important. 

   Nevada's major resources are gold, mercury and copper. It also produces clay, sand and gravel, gypsum, lead, lithium, magnesium, mercury, petroleum, and salt.
