"The Aloha State" became the 50th and last state on August 21, 1959.

Because the state was made by volcanoes and is a group of islands, Hawaii has a few minerals for current use, like lava rock.  On two of the islands, titanium oxide (used for paint coloring) is mined. But, Hawaii also cement, stone, sand and gravel, and gemstones.
