"The Land of Opportunity" became the 25th state on June 15, 1836. One of the 11 Confederate States, Arkansas seceded from the Union on May 6, 1861 and was readmitted on June 22, 1868.

Arkansas's mines south and southwest of Little Rock produce more than 90% of America's bauxite ! It's major commercial mineral resources are titanium, barite, bromine and oil, and also produces clay, cement, sand and gravel, marble, natural gas, silver, and zinc.

Arkansas also has numerous quartz mines and is home to the only diamond mine in America. Little Rock has the only inland-river foreign trade zone in the United States.
