Reading
To get a really good
feel for the way some of the miners and their families were treated while
working in the 19th century coalmines, try reading "A Coal Miner's
Bride, The Diary of Anetka Kaminska". It's an book about a Polish
girl who is brought to America in the late 1800's to marry a coal miner she
doesn't even know. We learned a lot from this book.
If you want to watch a film, try, "How Green Was My Valley". It's an old film. You may find it at your local library. It tells of the hardships the Welsh went through to earn their living in the mines.
