BREEDING
- Nesting season begins the end of March
- Owls usually have only one mate
- They attract mates by cooing, bowing, scratching and nipping them
- The male displays his flying ability by rising 30 meters, hovering from 5 -10 seconds,then drops 15 meters.  This pattern is repetitious.  Flights in a circle also occur.
- Burrowing owls make their burrows underground
- They use dry materials to fill the nest
- Adult owls reuse their burrows for nesting
- 6 -12 eggs are laid one day apart
- Eggs are incubated for between 28 - 30 days
- The male takes care of gathering the food during the nesting period
- The young start hunting food at 44 days old
