NEPTUNE is usually the eighth planet and the forth largest of our solar system, the Milky Way.

Sometimes, it trades places with Pluto and becomes the ninth planet. Then,it switches back.  Neptune is almost a twin of Uranus.  Neptune has 4 very light rings.   Neptune has 8 moons, the largest is Triton. Triton is the coldest object in the Solar System. Neptune is about 2.8 billion miles from the sun.  Its temperature is 400 degrees below zero! It is about 3.8 times as wide as the earth, but only weighs 17 times the earth. Neptune is one of the "gas giant" planets consisting of a deep surface, liquid surface, and sometimes solid core.

Neptune's atmosphere is mostly hydrogen and helium, but it has methane which makes the planet look blue.  A huge storm always blows there.  People call it the Great Dark Spot. It covers an area the size of Earth! The inner core contains the most rock and metal of the gas giant planets. A magnetic field is present on Neptune. Neptune completes one revolution every 16 hours and orbits the sun every 164.79 Earth years. If Neptune does not go around the sun while you are alive, your grandchildren or great-grandchildren might be lucky enough to see it.
