Planigale

Planigales live in the cracks of sun-dried, muddy earth of tropical grasslands. These grasslands flood every year. They ear grasshoppers that they catch during the night. Planigales only weigh four to five grams. There are about eleven to thirteen centimeters long. They have round ears and long noses. Planigales look like a smaller version of a kangaroo. Their front feet are short and they use their long rear legs to bounce along. The female can breed more than one time each year. The long-tailed planigale is the smallest marsupial.
