The margay is a 25-27 inch tall cat that is a little smaller than the ocelot. Its range runs through most of northern South America. The margay has rosette spots like the ocelot, but they tend to turn a solid blotch on its back. It is a nocturnal cat who, because of its size, hunts small prey such as birds, small monkeys, tree frogs, and insects that inhabit the rainforest's canopy.
