Jaguar
The Jaguar is often mistaken for a leopard. They
both have rosette markings but the Jaguar has tiny dots or irregular shapes
inside its rosette marks. The jaguar also has a stockier body and a shorter
tail. Body size often differs in jaguars of different location. The jaguars
in more open terrain tend to be bigger than the jaguars in a more forested
terrain. This suggests that there is more large prey in open areas. The
time a jaguar hunts depends on its location. In places close to human habitation,
jaguars are mostly nocturnal. But in places not inhabited by humans, jaguars
are often crepuscular and sometimes diurnal. The jaguar takes advantage
of the variety of animals living in the rainforest. It will eat anything
from cattle to fish.
The jaguar has such a powerful jaw that it often
kills its prey by piercing the skull with one bite.
