Humpback Whale
The humpback whale is the most common whale in Australian
waters, numbering at about 3000. Humpback whales are the 5thlargest
animal in the world. They can grow to weigh the equivalent of 600 humans,
or 45 tons. These are the most acrobatic whales of all, often displaying
an awesome array of leaping, rolling, and breaching movements. Humpback
whales spend their summer months feeding on krill in Antarctic waters,
migrating to the Great Barrier Reef in the summer. These 15 meter long
giants have a massive head and many lumps on their skin, interspersed with
barnacles.
