Golden-Crowned Sifaka
The golden-crowned sifaka is in the Primate order,
the Indriidae family, the Prosimii
suborder, and the Propithecus Genus
species. This sifaka is almost
the size of a medium-sized dog. Its body
is 20 inches long, and its tail
is 16 inches long. The golden-crowned
sifaka weighs 8 pounds. Their fur
is mostly white and their heads have
golden fur between the ears. The
face is black with white hairs. This
animal lives in patches of of forest
between the Loky and Manambato
Rivers in northeast Madagascar.
They eat seeds, unripe fruit, leaves, and
flowers. Females produce one young
a year in late June after, after
mating in January and a gestation
period of 165 days. The golden-crowned
sifaka has a lifespan of 25 to
30 years. |
