
| The common black lemur is
in the Primate order, the Lemuriade family, the Prosimii suborder, and the Eulemur Genus species. This lemur is about the size of a house cat, with a body length of 16 inches, and a tail length of 22 inches. This animal weighs 5 pounds. Males (left) are totally black, but females(right) have brown-gray backs, beigh stomachs, and black faces. This lemur lives in northwest Madagascar, as well as the Nosy Be and Nost Komba islands. They eat ripe fruit, leaves, flowers, and once in a while feed on insects. Females produce one baby in the fall, though twins are not unusual. They have a gestation period of about 126 days. The babies are born beteen September and November. The common balck lemur lives for 20 to 25 days. |
