Lord North was the Prime Minister during the American Revolution. A Prime Minister is someone who is in charge of government in some countries.

Lord North was Prime Minister for 12 years, from 1770 to 1782. In 1756 he was elected into the Parliament with a single member borough at Banbury. Lord North had a loud voice and sharp wit, which in debate was very good.

In 1758, he led the Government fight, The Opposition Motion, for parliamentary elections. In 1759, He was awarded Lord of Treasury. There he learned how to handle the matters of public finance.

In 1763, the year ended for the Pitt- Newcastle government. The King brought his favorite, The Earl of Bute, to lead in the head ministry. North stayed, rather reluctantly, in the in the Board of Treasury, instead of following Newcastle out of his office. Butes Government fell out of office and George Greenville became head minister. Handling the Stamp Act poorly, he was knocked out of office. In 1765, Greenville was knocked out of office permanently. Lord North was asked to stay but instead, he resigned.
