Medieval Glossary

Adorn- To be decorated
Amulet-Protecting its wearer
Bloomers- A garment worn by women, young ladies, or girls.
Bodices- The top part of a dress.
Breeches- Trousers slightly extending to the knee or lower.
Cameo- A jewel worn in Medieval Times
Chemise- An under garment, or a loose skirt like worn loose by women.
Cloak- A garment without sleeves.
Codpiece- A tight fitting pouch at the crotch that men wore in 15th century and 16th century.
Doublet- 1 Close fitting jacket worn by
men during the 15th and 16th centuries with or without sleeves.
Head Wear- Garments worn on the head.
Jerkins- A close fitting sleeveless jacket made of leather.
Jewelry- Precious gems worn by nobale person(s) starting in the Medieval Times.
Petticoat- A woman’s skirts.
Tunic-
  • 1. Loose – fitting garments, sleeved or sleeveless , knee length, worn by men and women in the Medieval Times.
  • 2. A very plain long cloak worn as a military jacket. The tunic usually had a high, stiff collar.
  • 3. Also used as a belted dress worn by women playing.
