Sing Down the Moon

by: Scott O'Dell

One spring the Navaho warriors left on a raid, while they were gone the white soldiers came and threatened chief Old Bear, if they didn't keep the peace they would come back and burn all the huts and kill everyone in the village.

Later on the Spaniards attacked the village, Bright Morning and Running Bird were captured by two of them. They were each given to an old lady for safe keeping for the night. The next morning the Spaniards returned for the Indian girls, later the next night Bright Morning and Running Bird escaped from them.

Bright Morning and Running Bird returned to their canyon. When they arrived the white soldiers (long knives) commanded the Navaho people to leave, the soldiers were at the bottom of the trail where the Indian were.

Later that month the Navaho left their village they were captured by the "long knives". The whole tribe was taken Bosque Redondo. During this time Bright Morning and Tall Boy were married, but when the soldiers found out they separated them so they could not be together. Tall Boy and Bright Morning managed to escape, they returned to their canyon where they built a hut before their son was born. Their canyon was named Canyon de Chelly.

I think Sing Down the Moonis a good book, I would like to read more books from Scott O'Dell. I think you should read Sing Down the Moon, and some more books by Scott O'Dell.
