Walk Two Moons

By: Sharon Creech

The book Walk Two Moons means you can’t judge a man until you’ve walk two moons in his moccasins. It’s about a girl named Salamanca.

Sal’s mother has been killed in a bus accident. Sal and her father move to a new city, to get away from all the memories of her mother .

Sal and her grandparents go on a vacation to see Old Faithful in Yellowstone National Park. While traveling Sal entertains her grandparents by telling them a story about her friend Phoebe. The trip is an opportunity to retrace her mother’s route before she died. This helped Sal by letting her see what her mother had seen and think about what her mother may have thought. Sal and her grandparents stop by a river to rest for awhile. A snake bites her grandma and she dies in the hospital.

Sal and her father move back to the farm where they used to lived before her mother died. They move back because they need to be closer to her grandpa. Thinking back over the past year of her life, Sal realizes that you have to walk in everybody’s moccasins, not just your own, if you want to be happy.

I thought Walk Two Moons was an interesting book. I liked the descriptions of the places Sal and her grandparents visited like National Yellow Stone Park.
