Crossing the Starlight Bridge

By Alice Mead

One Morning when Rayanne woke up, It was her birthday. She got one present and asked her father why her mother didn’t get up. Her father said they needed some time apart. She opened her present, it was a box of crayons. After her father left she and her mother packed their things and moved across the bridge to Grams house. When she started school a boy named Scott, picked on her because she was a Penobscot Indian, until she knocked him down. At first she didn’t like school until she made two friends. Rayanne picked a special crayon for every week. When school was out for summer break, her father came back. Rayanne and her mother liked the way they were, and they didn’t want her father living with them. They were both happy they didn’t have to cross the bridge everyday.

I think Crossing Starlight Bridge is a sad book, Rayanne’s father left them, and when he came back Rayanne and her mother didn’t want him to live with them. I think you should read this book because it might help you understand what it is like to have a parent leave the home. Alice Mead is an interesting writer and I would like to read more of her books.
