Dancing With the Indians
By Angela Shelf Medearis
This story is about a black family going to visit the Seminole Indians. These Indians rescued their grandfather when he ran away from a plantation where he was a slave. As they travel to the Indian camp, grandfather tells his grandchildren about how he thought slavery was wrong and why he had run away. He also explained to the children how kind the Seminoles had been to him. As their wagon was nearing the camp the drums began to beat, and the Indians dipped and twirled. First they saw the Ribbon Dance, then the rainbow dance and finally the rattlesnake dance. When the dancing was over their papa said they would come back some day.
This is a good book because I like the pictures.
