Here's a more elaborate description of our site. Our site is an educational web-page, with a fun conductor named "Julie". Our site is called the Kids Express. You ride a train throughout this site. It takes you first to a newsstand, where you can read or write articles. Then you ride the Kids Express train to Soap Box Park where you get to voice your opinion, and take surveys.
You must also always keep the mission in mind.
Our mission in developing and publishing Kids Express is to:
1. Engage all visitors to the site in an experience of learning and fun.
2. Challenge all visitors to become responsible and knowledgeable citizens of planet Earth.
3. Provide all visitors with a forum to become and remain updated on Current Events of interest.
4. Encourage all visitors to return in the never-ending quest for knowledge.
To maintain our site, you also need to know the thinking process that's involved. First we needed to research....so we understood the situation, and we had validate resources for credible source, and proof. Then we had to share what we found with the other kids, to share our opinion, or our side of the story. Then we all take a vote to see if our speech, or our process was "moving" enough to have the majority of the vote.
Remember to follow our mission, even if you're updating our page! It's very important. One of your responsibilities is updating. You want current news....about issues that take place in present time, not in the 60's!
Besides current news, please make our site interesting! Interest is very important also.
Another responsibility is to approve good reporters. Think hard, and read the answers they gave you from the reporter form carefully. Find the ones that give good reasons to be a reporter.
You also need to have sharp eyes, good spelling, and good grammar because you will also have to be an
editor.
You need to make sure that all the scripts are up and working, so that all links and graphics are working.
When we created the site, we had 6 editors. We had problems editing our magazine. We solved it by making a schedule! This will only work though....if there's more than one editor.
Promotions are another challenge. We need people to come to our site, and return also. First of all we need to start sending the word out...."To please try our site out, now that it's finished". You can make fliers, send on e-mail, tell it to teachers for their class rooms, and many more.
