People have over-fished for a long, long time. Reefs supply food for millions of people. Local fisherman now realize that the only way to continue fishing is to treat the reef carefully. People decided to stop fishing on one part of the reef so some fish stocks would be able to recover.
Ten percent of the world's coral reefs are wrecked and thirty percent are in poor condition. With more people moving to the Great Barrier Reef the danger increases. They use dynamite and cyanide to kill fish, which also kills the reef. People are beginning to realize that if we do not start protecting the reefs they will soon all be destroyed!
