During Diwali gifts are given. Diwali is a Hindu celebration that lasts from October to November. This celebration continues for five days.  During this holiday people exchange gifts and greeting cards. Two days before this celebration firecrackers, puffed rice, and candies are sold. This is one of this celebration’s customs.

The first day is Dhana Traydishi. It is the new year of buisness.  the second day iscelebrating the great god's triumph over the demon Navakarasura.  The third day isworship forthe goddes of wealth and buety,Lakshimi.  The fourth is Bali worship day of the battle between  two castles. On this day cows are washed, fed and adorned with flowers to parade through the streets.  The fifth and last day is devoted to brothers and sisters, and they have a feast together.

Celebrations have certain things to represent there holiday. For Diwali houses are adorned with little lamps called Diyes. After prayer one would put these in the corner of the house. On the first day of the celebration, Choti, which means little, Diwali, one Diya is lit. One would light a Diya to welcome theHindu god, Rama.
