The lion lives from South Africa to the Sahara Desert in rocky dens, thorn trees thickets, or tall grasses by streams. A male lion can grow to be nine to ten feet long from its had to the tip of its tail. The lion stands around three feet tall and weigh about four hundred pounds. Only the male grows a mane. Females grow to be about one foot shorter than the males. The female does most of the hunting. They are capable of opening their mouths to be eleven inches wide! They can easily kill a zebra or a medium sized antelope with very little trouble at all!
Lions usually avoid humans, but old ones are to slow to catch game may become man-eaters. Young lions that get a taste of human blood may also fall into this category. Over all, these kingly beasts are friendly and gentle creatures.
