Sarah's Reflections

Hello, My name is Sarah and I am a 5th grader at Aiea Elementary School. I am a member of Thinkquest's imagineer team. Our topic is on natural disasters. The natural disaster that I am doing is tsunamis. I have learned a lot about tsunamis as well as volcanoes, hurricanes, and earthquakes. I knew somethings about tsunamis in the beginning of Thinkquest but not that much. After most of the information had been gathered, I was almost like the expert on tsunamis. One reason I think the site worked was because my team had two of the best coaches, Mrs. Fu and Mrs. Fujita. I enjoyed being in Thinkquest. I not only had fun but I learned a lot, too. All of the information I found also educated me in what I should do in case there is a tsunami. I can tell all of my family and friends about all I have learned so they have the information with them in case they ever will need it. I have learned a lot of interesting facts about tsunamis as well as its beast and beauty. One of the interesting facts that I learned was that the word "tsunami" comes from the word "harbor" in Japanese. Another cool fact that I have learned is that tsunamis don't only come as one wave, they come in a series, which means tsunamis come one after the other and that they are not all one size. Another thing I learned about these series of waves are that the first and last waves waves are not always the biggest waves. Any wave in the series could be the biggest and the smallest. I have learned that Japan is the place where tsunamis happen the most. The people in Japan are always prepared because tsunamis happen all the time, big ones as well as small ones. I liked Thinkquest so much that I hope I can come back and be a veteran.
