An automatic sign that a tsunami is coming is when there is a local earthquake, especially one that causes you to fall. This is a natural sign that a tsunami is coming. When the shaking stops, then immediately go to a shelter and get out of evacuation zones. Do not wait for evacuation warning because it may too late. If an earthquake occurs near the Hawaiian Islands, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) will send out a tsunami warning to the islands effected. The warning will be issued by the civil defense sirens and announced over the radio, through the Emergency Broadcast System. If the earthquake happens a distance away, the PTWC will send out a tsunami watch and after they study the conditions of the ocean, they may or may not issue a tsunami warning for evacuation. Another sign that a tsunami is coming is when the water disappears, exposing the ocean floor and fish. Another clue is if you see a huge gigantic wave coming at the island. If you are not inside and are by tall things that may cause injury if it falls, get away because chances are that it may fall on you and injury you or even kill you. |
