Marijuana
It wasn't until the
1960's that marijuana
became popular in the United States. Now, most of the marijuana in the world is
grown in the U.S. Over the years marijuana has become the second most popular
intoxicant in the world. Today, there are more than 200,000,000 addicts.
Marijuana grown in the U.S.A. comes from the hemp plant. The scientific name of this
plant is Cannabis Sativa, The street names include gold, grass, pot weed, dope, and
joint. Each joint contains about 5 mg. of THC. THC is the active chemical in
marijuana. More and more teens are becoming addicted to the THC drug. As a
matter of a fact, about half of all young people try marijuana by the age of 18.
What they don't know is the effects of marijuana.
If you were a first time user taking
a large dose, you could suffer from dryness in the mouth and a sensation of dizziness.
Also, research shows that long-term use of marijuana can change your limbic system. An
excuse commonly used by teens is "Im only using a little bit." Even after
using a " little bit" you can suffer from increased pulse rate, or maybe redness
of the eyes. No matter how much you use, you put yourself at risk because you can suffer
from mood swings, slowed speaking, and slurred speech. Marijuana can also effect your
muscle movement and your sense of timing. Marijuana is the most dangerous drug to American
teens.
