Marijuana

 

    It wasn't until the 1960's that marijuana became popular in the United States.  Now, most of the marijuana in the world is grown in the U.S.   Over the years marijuana has become the second most popular intoxicant in the world.  Today, there are more than 200,000,000 addicts.  Marijuana grown in the U.S.A. comes from the hemp plant.  The scientific name of this plant is Cannabis Sativa, The street names include gold, grass, pot weed, dope, and joint.  Each joint contains about 5 mg. of THC. THC is the active chemical in marijuana.  More and more teens are becoming addicted to the THC drug.  As a matter of a fact, about half of all young people try marijuana by the age of 18.  What they don't know is the effects of marijuana.

   

    If you were a first time user taking a large dose, you could suffer from dryness in the mouth and a sensation of dizziness. Also, research shows that long-term use of marijuana can change your limbic system. An excuse commonly used by teens is "I’m only using a little bit." Even after using a " little bit" you can suffer from increased pulse rate, or maybe redness of the eyes. No matter how much you use, you put yourself at risk because you can suffer from mood swings, slowed speaking, and slurred speech. Marijuana can also effect your muscle movement and your sense of timing. Marijuana is the most dangerous drug to American teens.
