Major Battles and Events

It started out in 1939 as a small conflict Germany had with France and Britain but before it was over in 1945 it grew to include most of the major countries of the world. The long-range missile and the atomic bomb were two new important weapons that were introduced and there was a much greater use of airplanes for bombing than ever before.
Germany was ruled by a man named Adolf Hitler who thought that Germans were a superior race of people. The United States, France, Britain and Russia all joined together as the "Allies" to fight against the Axis countries. World War II actually took place in Europe and the Pacific at the same time and these areas of battle came to be known as the "European Theatre" and the "Pacific Theatre." The following major events took place during World War II:
World War II, the greatest war in history, caused the death of over 55,000,000 people. Over 1 trillion dollars were spent which is more than all other wars combined. Britain, France, Germany and Japan were no longer great military powers after the war but the United States and Russia remained strong.
